When an issue affects our industry, we have a number of resources we can call on. Government Affairs staffers work directly with key decision-makers at the highest levels. At the same time, Keep America Fishing supporters engage at the grassroots level through direct communications. Then we have ASA Member companies and their hundreds of thousands of employees. Their voices are perhaps the strongest of all.

Recreational fishing is a big business in our country. Together, we generate more than $115 billion in economic output and more than 828,000 jobs. That’s why when you speak out on an important issue, you immediately grab the attention of any politician.

Every single one of those 828,000 employees who work in the sportfishing industry have a vested interest in taking action on these issues. If a new law is good for fishing, it’s good for business. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true and, good or bad, the effects can trickle down to ordinary Americans in all walks of life. Hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and convenience stores across the country depend on fishing trips to stay afloat.

Together, we have an army of millions. A dedicated force of that size can become an unstoppable movement. That’s why it’s important to stay on top of the issues that affect our industry and to speak up when called upon.
