ASA’s Government Affairs Committee met for two days during the October Sportfishing Summit. ASA’s board of directors approved two committee motions: 1) Engage additional expertise to assist ASA with California’s lead issues; 2) ASA and Keep Florida Fishing will take a leadership role in organizing the recreational fishing community in order to better impact Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Council processes with respect to red snapper management. The committee had extensive discussions about Environmental Protection Agency policy regarding restoring water quality in lakes and reservoirs with regard to watershed management practices, and about ensuring that recreational fishing is not banned as part of any future marine monument designations.
