2017 Fishing Participation Through Third Quarter Down Slightly from 2016

In a license index managed by the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), license sales are estimated to have decreased 0.5 percent through the third quarter of 2017 compared to 2016.

Of the thirteen states included in this report, eight showed license sales decreases through the third quarter of 2017, primarily in the Northeast, Midwest and West regions.

Year-to-date sales in the Southeast are basically unchanged compared to 2016, but hurricane activity in September is believed to have negatively affected sales in Florida, Louisiana and Texas.

Fed. Beige Book Says U.S. Economy Expanding At “Modest to Moderate” Pace in October/November

Reuters reported that the Federal Reserve released its most recent “Beige Book,” its “periodic snapshot of the U.S. economy,” which showed that the economy “expanded at a modest to moderate pace in October through mid-November and inflation pressures increased.”

The report stated that “price pressures have strengthened since the last report,” and said that “many districts cited an increase in construction-material costs and several said there were rising costs in the transportation and manufacturing sectors.”

MarketWatch reports, “Consumer spending was flat in the latest Beige Book but retailers were generally optimistic about the holiday season,” adding that the Fed saw “a slight improvement in the outlook” across its districts.

The Beige Book, more formally called the Summary of Commentary on Current Economic Conditions, is a report published by the United States Federal Reserve Board eight times a year.
