IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Proposed Proposition 65 Settlement for Soft Plastic Baits

There is a hard deadline of April 17, 2019 to “opt-in” to the settlement.

This may not be on your radar, but it needs to be.

ASA, working with California-based attorneys, has negotiated a settlement of potential Proposition 65 claims that could be made based on California sales of soft baits containing certain chemicals.

The proposed settlement was negotiated by ASA and Kingpun Cheng (Cheng), the plaintiff in a previous settlement between a Prop 65 enforcer and several companies that sold fishing lures in Cheng v. Zoom Bait.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding between ASA and Cheng, “Fishing Lures” means the category of bait composed in whole or part of soft plastic substrate and intended for fishing.

Historic Lands Package Ready for President’s Signature

With a vote of 363-62, on February 26, 2019, the Natural Resources Management Act was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. Having previously been passed by the Senate, the bill now heads to the President’s desk for his signature.

Comprised of more than 100 locally and regionally specific public lands bills, the package contains defining wins for recreational fishing and the entire outdoor recreation community. Of particular importance to ASA are the permanent reauthorizations of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act, the Every Kid Outdoors Act, the Sportsmen’s Access to Federal Land subtitle and the 21st Century Conservation Service Corps Act.

Thank you to all our members and their employees, families and friends for sending emails and letters to your Members of Congress through Keep America Fishing. Your participation made a difference.
