The South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (SAFMC) announced at its meeting on March 8, 2017 that the exempted fishing permit (EFP) that would have allowed a catch share pilot program for six popular sportfish species has been withdrawn.

SAFMC had been considering an EFP that would establish catch shares for blueline tilefish, gag grouper, gray triggerfish, greater amberjack, the jacks complex and vermilion snapper. Anglers spoke out strongly in opposition of this EFP proposal and their voices were heard.
