Sales Manager – New Business Development

Be a part of the recreational fishing community in one of the largest outdoor industries today. The American Sportfishing Association is in search of a high-energy, fast learner and experienced self-starting salesperson to join a growing team.

Your Day:

  • Confidently market ASA and its assets over the phone and in-person to contacts ranging from entry-level to C-Suite at both prospective and established members. Primary focus will be providing sponsorship opportunities, selling exhibit space and assisting in membership recruitment when possible. You will have the ability to customize every opportunity to meet our members’ needs.
  • Listen to the member, understand their needs and connect them with the appropriate strategic solution.
  • Communicate the ASA vision and mission for the member to earn their confidence.
  • Write compelling, informative, and accurate proposals to engage the member and their team on the vision.
  • Identify new business by reviewing industry news, trade publications, competitive and adjacent events, etc.
  • Uncover opportunities with established membership by routinely engaging to understand their evolving goals.
  • Record your communication and track opportunities in sales software to accurately report your current pipeline of business.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of business that totals to 2x – 3x your revenue goal.
  • Work independently to closely monitor progress against weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual goals in order to ensure meeting/exceeding benchmarks.

  • Comfortable with technology as a subject matter as well as in learning new skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, including a firm grasp of tone, audience, and clarity.
  • Ability to collaborate within the team and across teams. You are deeply invested in contributing to not just your own success but the success of your teammates and organization.
  • Accountability to the team with your time, strong work ethic and productivity.
  • Organizational skills, able to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks at a time. Aggressive deadlines that don’t catch you by surprise.
  • Energetic self-starting professional ready to take on the next challenge.
  • Computer savvy with business basics (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and have experience with or willing to learn new applications such as event management and email distribution applications such as MapYourShow, iMIS etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 3 – 5 years of sales experience (exhibit space, sponsorship or advertising sales are helpful).
  • Ability to travel 20% to 30% of the time.
