The American Sportfishing Association’s (ASA) members and staff extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by Hurricane Helene.

At this time, ASA has been in touch with many of our members in the states affected by Hurricane Helene to check on their status and wellbeing and to find out how their families and their businesses fared. The storm significantly impacted coastal and inland communities, leaving behind catastrophic flooding, structural damage and power outages. It is clear that the recovery from this wide-spread and devastating hurricane will take a long time.

We also want to acknowledge the damage caused by the hurricane to fish and wildlife resources particularly in areas like John’s Pass Village, Cedar Key, Madeira Beach and the Suwannee River areas in Florida. ASA is currently looking into how the association may best be of service in the recovery efforts.

For those impacted by the hurricane, federal and state assistance programs are available. Residents and business owners can seek help from FEMA for immediate needs while the Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide loans to help repair and rebuild. Additionally, state-specific recovery programs are being rolled out in affected areas. If you are interested in making a donation there is information on the American Red Cross Website.
