For 90 years, the American Sportfishing Association has shared the joy of fishing and a love for the outdoors with the sportfishing industry. We’ve also championed the future of sport fishing by showcasing our commitment to protect the right to fish and expanding our community. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our members and partners, we strive to ensure, thriving fish populations and widespread access to fishing opportunities and fair trade and commerce.
Building the Future of Sportfishing Through Advocacy
At ASA, Advocacy is one of our core pillars and we work tirelessly to advocate for policies that ensure American anglers can continue to enjoy abundant fish stocks, pristine natural environments, and unhindered access to fishing opportunities. As a powerful voice in shaping legislation supporting the sportfishing tradition, ASA is safeguarding the industry and ensuring a positive sportfishing experience can be enjoyed by future generations.
Advocacy is at the center of everything. Without these efforts there is no future…
What is “Advocacy” and Why Does It Matter?
The dictionary defines advocacy as, “public support for or recommendation of a particular cause or policy.” Simply put, advocacy is the voice of our community coming together to support a common cause.
At ASA, we excel at gathering public support for the issues important to our industry and the sportfishing community. Through the efforts of our second-to-none Government Affairs team and Keep America Fishing, our angler advocacy arm, we make it easy for you to stay informed and to add your voice to the issues you care about. Together, we are a community of millions. And when we speak with a united voice, decision-makers in government pay attention.
What is the “Advocacy ROI” on Your Business
The success of your business is your number one concern. Time away from your business is money lost. That’s why ASA and Keep America Fishing make it as fast and easy as possible for you to stay informed and get involved.
ASA members receive our weekly Policy Watch newsletter which provides quick summaries of important issues and events that matter to you. When you see an issue that affects you, we provide issue toolkits that give you everything you need to get involved. We also have Keep America Fishing calls to action. These “action alerts” are timed for maximum effect and make it easy to send an email to a key decision-maker. Often, it’s simply a matter of a few mouse clicks.
