Rob Russel joins the American Sportfishing Association to provide key member support

Alexandria, VA – January 29, 2020 – The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) is pleased to announce that Rob Russel, a seasoned membership and customer service support professional, has joined the ASA team.

“Finding the right candidate for the new Member Relations Manager position was not easy,” said Blake Swango, vice president for Trade Show and Membership. “The position required someone with a proven track record of providing outstanding customer support service to assist our members with whatever they may need. We also wanted someone who has a passion for the outdoors, including fishing and boating. Rob has both.”

ASA created the Member Relations Manager position to focus on supporting ASA’s members and be their staff point-of-contact. In addition to following up on members’ questions and requests, Russel will also help to ensure that ASA’s members understand the benefits of membership and the business and legislative issues that are impacting their business.

“Rob will be spending a great deal of his time on the road, meeting with our members and listening to their concerns about their business and our industry,” noted Swango. “I expect we’ll learn a lot over the next few years which will help us fine tune how we can be of greater service to them.”

“This new position has the opportunities and challenges I was seeking,” said Russel. “I’m really looking forward to working with our members, and, more specifically, listening to their concerns and doing what I can to ensure their membership is working for them.”

Russel has close to 10 years’ experience in the customer service arena having worked for several East coast resorts in their guest relations divisions; BoatU.S. in their claims department; and for several service-based franchises in the Northern Virginia area in customer outreach and relationship development.

Rob is a graduate of George Mason University with a B.S. in Tourism and Event Management. He and his wife currently reside in Alexandria, Va.
