With the new year, Mary Beth Long, VP of Communications, took the opportunity to enhance our expertise and reorganize. By hiring external talent and elevating established veterans, the Communications team is in a position to address the changing needs of ASA members and the sportfishing community as well as supporting the objectives of our strategic plan.

First to join the team was Communications Coordinator Kate Wagstaff. Kate came to us from Hiring America, and its affiliate Military Made, where she planned and coordinated a wide variety of projects. Her skillset includes web and graphic design, videography, social media, and project management.

Next to join was Communications Manager Rob Shane. Rob was previously at Restore America’s Estuaries where he was a one-man communications team. Among many other projects, he spearheaded communications and outreach strategy including branding, messaging, stakeholder engagement, and legislative outreach.  Both Kate and Rob bring a fresh approach and new level of creativity to the team that will allow us to expand our capabilities.

Additionally, veteran staffers John Stillwagon and Allen Luck saw their roles and responsibilities increase. With nine years at ASA, John Stillwagon is embracing a larger role by assisting Mary Beth with management of the team as well as overseeing communications campaigns, content development, and website development projects. Allen Luck, also a long-term ASA staffer with seven years of experience, will expand on his social media, video production and digital creation responsibilities by managing our contract employees and internship programs.

The team’s unique combination of experience, creativity and fresh ideas allows us to better serve the membership and our partners.  We are very excited to take on the challenges of 2024 and beyond.
